The short story

Born in 1969 and grown up in Denmark as 3rd generation of seafarers in the family.

The international “career” of Ditlev Ditlevsen started early.
9th and 10th grade was taken on the German “Nachschule Tingleff” (similar to a boarding school) in southern Denmark, close to the German border.
It was here, in the basement in the home of a room mates, the first contact with computer science was initiated.
The commodore 64 had put a seed to grow.

Just after exams were passed Ditlev Ditlevsen went onboard the first ship of his career.

Cooking and deck work from early morning to late evening onboard the very small German coaster "Hans Georg" was on the menu.

A few ships later an application was filed with A.P.Moeller / Maersk for a position as Deck Cadet.

Apparently fitting into the psychological test profile with Maersk the training started shortly after.
During the education in Maersk the trainingship “Danmark” was attended for 5 months, that was on the famous “Columbus” trip in 1988. To celebrate Christopher Columbus trip to the West Indies as he discovered Americas.

Sailing the world thin for 18 months with only 2 weeks leave at home.
From Japans electronic industry to the war between Iran and Irak in the Persian Gulf for 5 months, and a few weeks stay in Singapore for dry docking.
Next trip was a container ship enroute from US Gulf along the US coast to Europe and via Suez canal to Persian Gulf and back. More than half way around the globe, several times, in 10 months .

Several ships in Maersk Line came and went and Navigation academy in Svendborg, Denmark commenced.
Skipping 6 months of education due to an extended training program Ditlev Ditlevsen was a certified Master Mariner at the age of 23.
Already with additional special training from Plymouth Technopolitan, UK (now Plymouth university).

Navy and civil service, cleared by the government and finally out to sea again.

Arctic and icy waters around Greenland, heavy traffic around home and south around the Cape of Good Hope was what went on during the next few years. Each time a change of company had to be made a fast career was offered and taken.

The last company served was TeleDanmark, Marine (later Alcatel).
Here the interest for telecom took at more physical form.

Actually laying the cables and fixing them when they broke, and the entire operation in searching the fault, laying the cable, establishing a landline connection etc etc., gave a completely different view at the industry.
A lot of knowledge was gained during the service for the national tele company both in navigation, surveys, IT, and in telecom.

In the mean time, when at home on leave, experience as marine pilot was gathered together with the local marine pilot and a vacancy finally came.

In 2001 DitlevDitlevsen started as a full time marine pilot with the Royal Danish Pilots in Denmark (Danpilot).
All these years at sea had left a big eager to do something about the communication problems a seaman always had, sailing around the globe.

A huge mobile phone bill or an even bigger satellite phone bill was the choice for a seaman then and still is – until today.

In 2001 DitlevDitlevsen sold his first scratch phonecard to a ship and started Capt. DD’s ship supply.
Despite a thorough search over long time the sufficient tools for bringing cheap telecommunication to the seafarers was not found
– but in the search DitlevDitlevsen had an influence on the idea and development of the first rented switch to be found public on the internet!.

Mainly due to decreasing traffic in the local ports Capt. DD ship supply was closed and brought an end to the first attempt of supplying seafarers with cheap telecommunication.

A third company was started together with the Mrs. a boutique on the old farm from 1778.

Late 2006 after a two year project to bring a low budget internet auction house to success in China, DitlevDitlevsen decided to make another research of the market to see if new possibilities had come for the telecommunication desire.

The tools were found and a development was initiated – DitlevDitlevsen.com was unofficially born.

Early 2008 DitlevDitlevsen.com was registered as reselling company of telecom services.
Contracts were signed, products and equipment were bought, servers rented and a launch of Pilot-Sim was close.

More development, more ideas, more services and in end 2009 – with a new webdesign fast underway, mobile broadband, innovative payment & money transfer tools supported by a giant international financial company and an outsourcing network with 600 hands available plus a global network of freelancers and related companies.

Finally we can offer the seafarers to call home for less than a dime – and even pay for it at the same time.
